Kansas - Where ALEC's "Time Has Come"

Kansas
(Can't think of one cool thing to say about Kansas.)
Only time I was there - was at night - on I-35 - at 110mph - heading for Minnesota.

TODAY's News (8/22/11)

“The time has come,” said Jonathan Williams, director of tax and fiscal policy for the American Legislative Exchange Council, a national conservative group advising leaders in both states. “Of all the states considering this, both Kansas and Missouri are at the top of the list.”

Opponents of the plan in both states say they’re working to stop any effort to phase out the state income tax in exchange for a higher, broad-based sales tax. They argue that swapping the income tax for a sales tax would mean a multibillion-dollar shift in the tax burden from wealthy taxpayers to the middle class and poor.

“The downside of the tax swap appears to be minimal, if not nonexistent,” the American Legislative Exchange Council said in a report titled “The Missouri Compromise,” which promoted the income-tax-for-sales-tax trade.

(If you believe that last sentence - I have some oceanfront prorty to sell you in Minnesota - and I'll give you a really good price on it)

AND THEN YOU HAVE THIS EDITORIAL COMMENT
Both scenarios would be ruinous for poor and-middle-income households.

“Of all the states considering this, both Kansas and Missouri are at the top of the list,” a spokesman for the American Legislative Exchange Council approvingly told a reporter for The Star.

It’s easy to see why income tax elimination schemes have pushed their way to the forefront of the political landscape. They are of great long-term benefit to wealthy individuals and corporations, who are in a position to fund their causes.

But now is the time for those who would bear the brunt of these ideas to stand up and speak out.

It is time for those of us who "bear the brunt of these ideas to stand up" and make sure that the following legislators with ALEC affiliations are NOT re-elected.

Below you will find a list of people who have an association with to have been linked with ALEC – many are even verifiable Kansas ALEC members.

Each person on the list has been compiled and cited using the web and you can also find the proof by researching through ALEC documents, reports and magazines, or examining the financial documentation of the Kansas ethics board reporting webpage, or other webpage bios or article.

So what – what if people had a list – what does that accomplish?
What would happen if people had a list - what will it accomplish?
Does it really hurt ALEC if a list were available or would ALEC just go on – business as usual?
How would this information be used in a constructive way?

What is next – we HAVE TO REMOVE all ALEC members from state and federal government.  It is our role to make sure that they don’t get re-elected.  Now is the time for “boots to the ground” to use the information we have compiled on ALEC members and ALEC “model legislation” to prove to others that ALEC members MUST be removed from public service at any and all levels.

ALEC just completed their four day conference where ALEC Corporations told your legislators what legislation they wanted to have passed and what legislation they did not want to have passed.

ALEC members are not serving the public – they are serving the ALEC corporations.  It does not matter how ALEC or their members spin this story over the next couple months it is important for you – to remember and to talk about the following fact:

When was the last time YOU got to sit with your legislator for two or three days and tell your legislator what YOUR needs are and help your legislator write legislation that benefited YOU?

Your ALEC legislator does this multiple times a year with corporations – so when push come to shove – it is evident who your legislator is representing – the ALEC corporations.

Past members are important – because they may come up for a state or federal appointment.  Or one of their kids who have been indcotrinated (Kiddi Kongress) by ALEC may fun for office.

Campaign reports – report campaigns – so someone may be on the list that did not win  - but you can bet your boots they will try again.

ALEC members and those affiliated with ALEC in any manner
MUST NOT BE RE-ELECTED.

Without state and federal legislators ALEC will cease to exist and it will implode.
