PROTEST ALEC - Charlotte NC - Friday, May 11

PROTEST ALEC AT THEIR SPRING TASK FORCE SUMMIT
Friday, May 11, 2012 @ 9:00 am - 6:30 pm

The Westin Charlotte Hotel
601 S College St

Charlotte,NC 28202
USA

The best way to get to the Westin is by light rail — the  Stonewall Street  station is right next to the hotel. There are also a number of decks and surface lots, and you should plan to spend about $10 for parking if you drive.

WHAT NOT TO BRING WITH YOU TO THE MAIN PROTEST AREA
For the protesters, the new rules take a new tack on civil rights and nonviolent protest. The January 23 City Council action led to the removal of Occupy Charlotte tents from the front of City Hall, a ban on camping overnight on city property in general, and new rules allowing officials during “extraordinary” events to search backpacks, briefcases, messenger bags, and carry-on luggage (like wheeled briefcases). The justification for such measures is apparently based on the idea that there might be intent to conceal weapons, although how the police might know about such intent is unclear. Grounds for potential immediate arrest are possession of spray paint, hammers, crowbars, utility knives, padlocks, lumber, and permanent markers.

Nonviolent protest - does not necessarily mean an equal and nonviolent response from police.

THIS IS NONVIOLENT PROTEST at Charlotte NC ALEC Task Force Summit Meeting.
Charlotte NC ALEC Task Force Summit Meeting will be a PEACEFUL PROTEST.

If violence is YOUR intent - stay away from the ALEC protest - we don't need you in Charlotte.
YOUR potential acts of violence - Destroy, Distort THE MESSAGE!!!!  ACTS of violence/vandalism play into the hands of pro-ALEC reporters.  ACTS of violence/vandalism make US LOOK BAD and ALEC look good.
