ALEC Members DUMP Heartland Over the Kaczynski Billboard

WTF?
Really????????
Something terribly wrong with this story –
A f#cking billboard causes them to drop funding BUT they continue to support and participate in the American Legislative Exchange council (ALEC) and the kill at will model legislation and the voter ID legislation and ALEC’s focus on destroying democracy
– and that doesn't bother these companies  one damn bit????????

I guess the moral of the story is:
WE LOVE BUYING LEGISLATORS FROM ALEC.
Heartland is JUST A CHARITY.

COMMENTARY | On May 9, The Guardian reported that the right-wing Heartland Institute has suffered a massive exodus of major donors after a controversial billboard was placed along a major highway in Chicago. The billboard had a picture of the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski, with the words "I still believe in global warming. Do you?"

The firms who have decided to stop funding between them gave the thinktank $1m (£620,000) in 2010 and 2011, according to documents leaked this year.

But about two dozen insurance companies, including US giant State Farm, announced an end to support for Heartland because of the billboard. The ad, which ran for just a day on a Chicago expressway, featured an image of the Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, and the caption: "I still believe in global warming. Do you?"

Companies such as State Farm were among the thinktank's biggest single donors.

Diageo Stops Heartland Donations in Wake of Unabomber Billboard
Drink giant Diageo says it will no longer fund the Heartland Institute, a free-market think tank that denies global warming, the Guardian reports, following a controversial ad campaign by the non-profit.

On May 3, a Heartland billboard appeared over the Eisenhower Expressway in Illinois showing a picture of Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber, with the slogan: “I still believe in global warming. Do you?”

GM ends donations to climate-change-denying Heartland Institute
10,000 General Motors owners can make an impact.

After being confronted with a petition against the money that the GM Foundation gave to the Heartland Institute – known as one of the biggest funders of climate-change denial – following an exposé on DeSmogBlog, CEO Dan Akerson said earlier this month that he would review the situation. Based on a press release put out by the group that organized the petition, Forecast the Facts, it appears that GM will no longer give the Heartland Institute any money. In 2011, the GM Foundation donated $15,000.

I guess the moral of the story is:
WE LOVE BUYING LEGISLATORS FROM ALEC.
Heartland is JUST A CHARITY.
