ND ALEC Members - Hide, ashamed

[ALEC spokesman] Meierling did say that ALEC has no plans to reveal its corporate and legislative members, identify individuals representing corporations within ALEC, or open up their model bill task force meetings.

And as I have repeatedly written – most ALEC members are embarrassed to admit that they belong to an extremist, right-wing, pro-corporate organization like ALEC.

As I have noted previously – most ALEC legislators will list most anything in their bios – their religious affiliations, NRA affiliation, their farm bureau membership, girl/boy scout leader – everything, BUT ALEC

This week the web universe handed me a gift – so I could prove this point to my readers.

The North Dakota GOP has a webpage dedicated specifically for THE GOP members of the North Dakota State House.

The state of North Dakota State House has 69 GOP legislators

The state of North Dakota State House has 23 GOP legislators who are known ALEC members.

Of the 69 GOP legislators, 23 who are known ALEC members ONLY THREE acknowledge their ALEC membership of the North Dakota GOP.org webpage.

Three legislators admit their involvement in ALEC.

That leaves 20 known ALEC members who are ashamed to acknowledge their membership with this extremist right-wing organization, to their own party.

Because ALEC does not release their state legislator member lists

AND because most ALEC legislators don’t willingly admit their membership in this extremist right-wing organization

AND because ALEC now copyrights all their documents, including their member lists - so they can no longer published (when found by a whistleblower/activist)

We have no way of really knowing which legislator, in any state, is carrying ALEC pro-corporate legislation onto the house floor – to ensure they get their corporate scholarship to attend the next ALEC meeting.

The 22 members I cited above – is probably WRONG, UNDER-STATED – cause there are probably more ALEC members on this list who are ashamed of their affiliation with ALEC.
