Sidewalk Chalk Could Get you 10 years in Jail

As we prepare for the protest against the extremist American Legislative Exchange Council - it is important to recognize that the radical right-wing is going to the extreme in their reactions to the first amendment process.

God only knows what kind of political right-wing nut jobs will be providing support for ALEC in Chicago - we have no idea at this time, to know who or what they have bought - with the help of their ALEC corporate benefactors, to ensure that their annual secretive meeting of legislators and corporate lobbyists goes smoothly.

After the filibuster that happened this week in Texas - one of Senator Davis' colleagues (supposedly) - referred to her - a sitting State Senator - as a "terrorist" - for using her right to filibuster.

Today on Raw Story

If convicted, Olson could spend up to 13 years in jail and be forced to pay the bank $13,000 in restitution.

“This young man is being persecuted for thirteen counts of vandalism stemming from an expression of political protest that involved washable children’s chalk on a city sidewalk,” Filner wrote in the memo. “It is alleged that he has no previous criminal record. If these assertions are correct, I believe this is a misuse and waste of taxpayer money. It could also be characterized as an abuse of power that infringes on First Amendment particularly when it is arbitrarily applied to some, but not all, similar speech.”

Olson described the writing as being “always on city sidewalks, washable chalk, never crude messages, never vulgar, clearly topical. But Judge Howard Shore struck down his attorney’s argument that the written protest fell in line with his right to free speech.
Why he would have to pay the bank restitution is beyond me - if you read the whole story.  Evidently Bank of America feels they haven't stolen enough money from Americans yet.

UPDATE - GAG ORDER ISSUED THE NEXT DAY

Concerned with the media's coverage of the trial of Jeff Olson, a 40-year-old man facing charges over anti-bank messages written in washable chalk on city sidewalks, San Diego Judge Howard Shore issued a gag order Thursday prohibiting him and others involved in the case from speaking to the press.

Gag orders are rarely issued during misdemeanor trials, but Dorian Hargrove of the San Diego Reader reported that Shore was unhappy with reports that mentioned the fact that Olson could face a total of up to 13 years in prison or a $13,000 penalty for the vandalism charges.

A health care activist in Pennsylvania was arrested Wednesday night for writing a message in sidewalk chalk protesting the governor’s decision to block health care for 700,000 residents in the state.

As lawmakers consider legislation this week, many activists are putting pressure on Corbett, including a dozen uninsured Pennsylvanians who staged a sit-in at the State Capitol on Wednesday. According to local Pennsylvania blog Raging Chicken Press, the demonstrators were kicked out of the building that evening, after which a number of them continued to protest outside the governor’s mansion. At one point, health care activist AJ Marin was arrested for writing a message to Corbett in chalk on the sidewalk: “Governor Corbett has health insurance, we should too.” According to the citation, Marin was charged with disorderly conduct for writing a “derogatory remark about the governor on the sidewalk.

Derogatory remark about the governor?
Written on a PUBLIC sidewalk?
We are no longer allowed to make derogatory remarks about our government officials?
“Governor Corbett has health insurance, we should too.”
A Derogatory remark???
Really?
REALLY?

There is a reason why we refer to them as RightWing Nut Jobs.
They have lost touch with reality
They are in some type of psychopathic disconnect from society as a whole.
The need to be voted out of office, across the USA, at every level of government.

They no longer know what moderation means - they are extremists, holding beliefs that are not acceptable in today's society and should not be accepted.
We need to start telling THEM to SHUT UP!
They should no longer have a dominant voice.
